Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, the senior leader and President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former chief minister of Punjab, has been released from prison on Tuesday.
This step comes as a huge relief for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The administration of Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore verified the release of the former chief minister of Punjab.
As per Express news reports, Elahi moved to his home, Zahoor Elahi Palace in Gujrat, after being freed. His lawyer Amir Saeed Rawn confirmed that Elahi reached Zahoor Elahi Palace.
“I am grateful to the judges who supported the truth and I was released. I am grateful to all those who prayed for me and supported me in this difficult time. The people of Gujarat suffered a lot of abuse and cruelty. Even our mandate was stolen in Gujarat,” the former CM posted on X.
Elahi was granted bail earlier in the day by the Lahore High Court (LHC) in relation to the illegal recruiting case.
The hearing was presided over by Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad. Amir Saeed Rawn, Elahi’s attorney, contended that the anti-corruption committee brought the lawsuit after a two-year hiatus.
In his bail request, he added that the previous chief minister of Punjab had neither taken anything in exchange for a position nor participated in the hiring process.
During the raid at Elahi’s home, it was claimed that the anti-corruption agency had planted fictitious evidence.
Elahi’s attorney, Advocate Manzoor Waraich, stated in a short conversation with the media that his client is ill and will get tested tomorrow.
