Pakistan Tehreek-e-Isnaf (PTI) has postponed Thursday’s jalsa (mass gathering) in Islamabad.
PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has made the announcement in this regard today.
Mr Gohar and Azama Swati have told the journalists that PTI founder Imran Khan has issued direction to delay the even.
Although the court had directed the Islamabad administration allow jalsa and provide suitable venue to the opposition party. And the party has already made full preparation for the show, the administration refused to permission at the 11th hour yesterday.
The Islamabad authorities said it is difficult for them to control the gathering, owing to security threats.
But, till yesterday, the PTI leaders vowed they would hold the gathering at any cost.
The party started the mobilization of its supporters and workers.
Amid the situation, the Islamabad Capital Authority (ICT) administration started placing containers, enhancing the security measures. It said the it postponed the jalsa on the report of the intelligence agencies which issued security alert. The administration tightened the security measures of twin cities (Islamabad-Rawalpindi), placing the containers and blocking main roads particularly leading to Red Zone.
Security Situation in Islamabad-Rawalpindi
Law enforcement agencies have tightened the security situation in twin cities. They are allowing only government employees entry in Red Zone.
The ongoing Pakistan-Bangladesh Cricket Match has further created difficulties and traffic woes for commuters. The authorities have closed the Muree Road for the security of the cricketers. The administration has also declared a holiday in Rawalpindi today.
