Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) jointly decided to draft a constitutional amendment, said the sources on Thursday.
A PTI delegation met with JUI Chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman. The delegation included Salman Akram Raja, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Akhunzada Hussain. The head of JUI’s legal team, Senator Kamran Murtaza, Mufti Ibrar, and other JUI leaders were also present at the meeting.
The inside story of the meeting between JUI and PTI leaders has surfaced.
According to sources, discussions were held on the proposed constitutional amendment draft, parliamentary collaboration, and the Practice and Procedure Ordinance.
Sources also mentioned that both parties decided to jointly prepare a draft of the constitutional amendment.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Salman Akram Raja said that they had a very positive meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rahman.
He added, “We came to inquire about Maulana’s well-being. There are rumors that Maulana has accepted the government’s stance, but he has thwarted the government’s attempts to undermine the Constitution.”
Salman Akram Raja claimed that Maulana would not take any step that history would record negatively. “Maulana Fazlur Rahman is with us,” he stated.
JUI’s Senator Kamran Murtaza said that the draft of the constitutional amendment has not been prepared yet.
“We are part of the opposition and will remain so. However, if legislation is made that benefits society, we can work with the government,” he added.
