A media interaction inside Adiala Jail revealed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan acknowledging the government’s efforts in averting an economic collapse.
When questioned by a journalist about the government’s role in stabilizing the economy, the PTI founder remarked, “While bankruptcy has been avoided, the economy remains stagnant with no significant progress.”
On Thursday, members of the PTI’s negotiation team were granted access to meet the party’s founder.
The delegation, including Omar Ayub, Asad Qaiser, Salman Akram Raja, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, and Hamid Raza, exited the jail through Gate-5 after the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to engage with the PTI founder during his confinement in Adiala Jail.
Earlier, the first meeting between representatives of the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was convened at Parliament House, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. The session began with prayers for the dialogue’s success, emphasizing the need for political harmony in the current climate.
The PTI delegation included Asad Qaiser, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Raja Nasir Abbas, while the government was represented by Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah, Irfan Siddiqui, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Aleem Khan, Raja Pervez Ashraf, and Naveed Qamar.
Speaker Sadiq described the talks as a crucial democratic step, emphasizing that resolving political challenges through dialogue is vital for strengthening democracy and achieving stability. He highlighted that the parliament, representing 240 million citizens, bears the responsibility of addressing public concerns and ensuring economic and political progress.
During the discussions, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar voiced concerns over actions or statements, such as tweets, that might disrupt the negotiation process. PTI’s Asad Qaiser acknowledged the issue, assuring that it had been addressed within the party’s core committee.
Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue, with the next meeting scheduled for January 2, where PTI is expected to formally present its demands.
