Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) develops a strategy to ban customers’ Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) in three stages.
PTA sources claim that the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has sent data to the authority, and that on August 16 the procedure to block the simulators would begin.
According to the specifics, SIMs registered on canceled and phony CNICs would be stopped in the first phase, while SIMs registered at expired CNICs would be blocked in the second.
As per the sources, SIMs linked to the CNICs of deceased individuals would be disabled during the third and final phase.
Furthermore, the customers have started to receive messages on their SIMs.
Additionally, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ruled that the federal government could not block non-filers’ Subscriber Identity Modules.
IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq made the ruling in response to a writ suit filed by the telecom company.
The petition contested Clause 114-B of the Income Tax Ordinance and the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Income Tax General Orders against non-filers.
The petitioner said that the tax regulator’s newfound jurisdiction infringed the basic right to commercial freedom guaranteed by Article 18 of the Constitution.
