At a conference in Lahore on Saturday, a pro-Palestine demonstrator disrupted and screamed slogans during the German Ambassador’s lecture on civil rights.
Alfred Grannas, the German ambassador to Pakistan, delivered a speech titled “People’s Mandate: Safeguarding Civil Rights in South Asia” during the 5th Asma Jahangir Conference.
The two-day conference, which was announced by the Asma Jahangir Legal Aid Cell (AGHS), is being organized in association with the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
“Excuse me, Mr. Ambassador,” the protester can be heard asking a short while after the envoy started speaking. The fact that you are here discussing civil rights when your nation is ruthlessly mistreating those advocating for Palestinian rights astounds me.
Chants of “Free, Free Palestine” and “From the River to the Sea” could be heard as the audience cheered and applauded him.
Grannas replied right away to his remarks, stating, “Go outside and shout if you want to.” Since yelling is not a conversation.
Grannas’ comments were subsequently distorted during the event’s webcast, which was then turned off for a short while.
Grannas stated that the inviolability of human dignity and its protection are the “mother of all basic human rights” as he continued his statement.
