The military is “preparing a response” to the Iranian missile bombardment that hit Israel earlier this week, an Israeli official told AFP on Saturday.
The military officer, who spoke under anonymity as he was not permitted to publicly discuss the matter, stated, “The IDF (Israeli military) has begun preparing a response to the extraordinary and unlawful Iranian strike on Israeli civilians and Country.”
He did not go into detail about the type of reaction or when it came.
Citing the military, the left-leaning Israeli publication Haaretz stated that the military’s retaliation will be “significant.”
According to the publication, “the IDF is getting ready for a big attack in Iran following this week’s ballistic attack from Tehran.”
“The military does not completely rule out the possibility that, following the Israeli attack, Iran will launch rockets at Israeli territory again,” the statement said.
Iran attacked Israel directly for the second time in less than six months on October 1st, firing almost 200 missiles toward the nation.
A few of the missiles struck military bases but did not result in significant damage or casualties, while the majority were intercepted by Israel’s aerial defense system.
According to Iran, the missiles were fired in retaliation for the September 27 Israeli airstrike that murdered Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah in the capital of Lebanon.
Iran launched its missile strike in retaliation for the July 31 killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the former senior leader of Hamas, in Tehran.
Iran and Hamas both hold Israel accountable for Haniyeh’s demise. On his passing, Israel has remained silent.
