Police virus is found in the sewage samples of all the four provinces, the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at Pakistan’s National Institute of Health revealed.
According to a report by Pakistan’s National Institute of Health, samples collected from 25 districts between February 3 and February 12 tested positive for Wild Poliovirus Type 1.
In Sindh, 13 areas sewage is detected with Polio virus. Sajawal, Dadu, Korangi, Malir, Hyderabad, Badin, Sukkur, Keamari, Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Mirpurkhas and Karachi Central and East were among them.
In Balochistan, polio-positive samples were found in Quetta, Noshki, Chaman, Loralai, and Zhob.
The virus was discovered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Peshawar.
Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala in Punjab all had contaminated sewage.
It is anticipated that this new information regarding the polio virus will make matters worse nationwide.
Notably, Pakistan reported 6 Polio cases this year, with four occurring in Sindh, one in KP and one in Punjab. Last year, 74 cases were reported, including 22 in KP, 27 in Balochistan, 23 in Sindh, and one each in Punjab and Islamabad.
Importantly, the first nationwide polio vaccination campaign of 2025 began on February 3 and ran through February 9. Nearly 45 million children were successfully vaccinated during this period, reaching 99% of the goal.
