The Lahore police have reported the arrest of a 12-member gang, including a woman, accused of honey-trapping the well-known writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar.
The gang was apprehended with modern weaponry, significant cash, and multiple mobile phones.
Authorities are currently seeking other potential victims of this criminal organization.
According to police, the gang lured Qamar under the pretense of discussing a script, kidnapped him, demanded a ransom of Rs 10 million, and erased data from his phone to conceal their activities.
This group had been executing major crimes and targeting prominent individuals.
During a press conference, DIG Imran Kishwar detailed that the gang had executed a well-orchestrated plan.
The police recovered data from Qamar’s phone, leading to the identification of the main conspirator, Amna Urooj, and her associates.
DIG Kishwar revealed that the gang first contacted Qamar on July 15, posing as scriptwriters.
Amna Urooj had been in communication with Qamar for 10 to 15 days, exchanging calls and pictures before arranging a meeting at her residence.
The writer was then abducted by armed men, who demanded Rs 10 million in ransom, used his ATM card to withdraw funds, and deleted all data from his mobile device.
The police identified and arrested 12 suspects, including Amna, with two additional members still at large and two more victims identified.
Amna Urooj, the primary suspect, stated that she had been in contact with Qamar for several days, exchanging pictures and arranging a meeting at her home.
She has been accused of duping influential individuals and extorting large sums of money. The investigation is ongoing, with further inquiries into the gang’s operations.
Earlier, well-known Pakistani scriptwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar was abducted and assaulted, police reported.
According to the details, a woman named Amna invited Qamar to her residence under the pretext of discussing a drama project.
Once he arrived, armed men kidnapped him and carried out the robbery.Qamar reportedly handed over a large sum of money to the abductors, who then released him.
The Sundar police station in Lahore registered a case based on Qamar’s account.
