Punjab police arrested people of Ahmadiyya community in Gujranwala for “violating the constitution”. This is followed by a detention of another Ahmadi (Qadyani) in Toba Tek Singh a week ago.
Reports say the people were arrested over the complaints of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), a hardliner Sunni-Brelvi outfit. The arrests were made for performing the sacrifice of animal on Eid ul Adha, according to police.
Pakistan’s constitution does not allow the community to sacrifice the animal of Eid.
The police registered over five FIRs on same charges during the past year Eid. The FIR in Gujranwala was registered under section 298-C of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Jamaat Ahmadiyya spokesperson stated that over nine FIRs were registered against their community members across Punjab on this Eid.
The constitution allows people of all religions in Pakistan other than Islam practicing of their rituals within the wall boundaries.
Police official in Gujranwala says they have provided full security to Ahmadiyya worship places in Gujranwala.
