The JI leadership declared its intention to continue the sit-in at ‘D Chowk’ despite all of the limitations that the police and government of Islamabad are now enforcing.
JI Secretary Information Qaiser Sharif stated in a statement that the police are conducting raids at the residences of party members. During one raid at the residence of JI Secretary General Amirul Azeem, the law enforcement officers detained his driver.
“Hafiz Muhammad Ajmal, the head of Jamaat-e-Islami, was taken into custody. Leader Mian Usman Rafi has been arrested in Kharian. From Khairpur Tamewali, eight more leaders have also been taken into custody,” he continued.
Qaiser, who also reported on the arrests of other leaders, bemoaned the Punjab government’s return to “traditional tactics” and asserted that the raids are an attempt to prevent the sit-in from happening.
It is requested of the workforce that they swear not to participate in the sit-in. “There have been at least seventy-one arrests,” he continued.
It should be mentioned that Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is demonstrating against a significant increase in power costs, and on Friday, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and other religious organizations declared nationwide demonstrations against the ruling made by the Supreme Court in the Mubarak Sani case.
However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has also said that they would hold protests on Friday in order to demand Imran Khan’s release.
Law enforcement officials have been stationed in the nation’s capital to guarantee adherence, and the public is asked to abstain from any unlawful actions.
Comparably, the Punjab Home Department has said that Section 144 will be enforced throughout the state on July 26 and 28. The notice made clear that protests, sit-ins, rallies, and public gatherings are prohibited during this time because they might serve as easy targets for terrorist attacks.
