Pneumonia claims the lives of another six children in different areas of Punjab, say health authorities.
The total number of deaths in two days reached 18 as the province continues to witness a surge in cases for over a month.
Severe cold weather is the main reason behind the spread of the infection which affects the lungs, causing serious health issues to children mainly newborns to the age of 12 years.
Parents must keep the children inside rooms and in hygienic condition, Dr Rauf told The Opinion.
Punjab Health Department said a total of 700 cases of pneumonia have been detected across the province in two days. Over 200 children died since the start of the viral infection, it added.
Pneumonia symptoms include fever, cough, breathing difficulties and cold. Hospitals in Punjab face emergencies as the number of patients is increasing every day.
Health experts advised people to use face masks, quit smoking and remain vigilant. They linked the infection to the foggy and severe cold weather which has gripped the province for over three weeks. Doctors say 30 types of germs cause the infection of pneumonia and 15 percent of the lives claimed by it are children.
