Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) tonight in New York, where he is anticipated to discuss the Palestine and Kashmir crises.
The premier will be the second speaker in the plenary gathering for the UN General Debate, which begins at 6 p.m. PKT.
PM Shehbaz is anticipated to stress the significance of resolving long-standing issues that have been on the UN Security Council’s agenda, such as the Palestine and Kashmir conflicts, in accordance with a previous statement from the Foreign Office.
According to the FO, he would reiterate Pakistan’s unwavering support for the UN’s role in promoting world peace, security, and prosperity as well as its unwavering commitment to multilateralism.
In addition, the prime minister will pledge Pakistan’s resolve to “work with every member nation of the UN to uphold the UN Charter, preventing disputes, fostering harmony, and promoting global economic growth” as the country prepares to enter the UNSC in 2025–2026.
The premier will address issues including the effects of climate change on nations, Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, the difficulties faced by nations with high debt, India’s occupation of Kashmir, and the ongoing genocide against Palestinians by Israeli forces, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
As Tel Aviv’s bombing of Gaza approaches a year anniversary and has spread to Lebanon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is among the other leaders whose speeches at the session are anticipated to be widely followed. Following PM Shehbaz, Netanyahu is scheduled to address the UNGA as the third speaker.
Leader of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus, whose newly established interim administration has pledged new elections following Sheikh Hasina’s removal last month, is also set to speak.
