Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is embarking on a visit to Cairo, Egypt, today to take part in the 11th D-8 Summit, scheduled from December 18 to 20, 2024.
This year’s summit centers on the theme “Investing in Youth, Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy,” emphasizing economic collaboration among its member states.
The D-8 summit, an alliance for economic cooperation, comprises Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran, and Turkey.
The event aims to strengthen partnerships in critical sectors such as agriculture, food security, and tourism.
In a statement released by the Foreign Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the organization’s objectives and stress the importance of collective efforts for shared economic prosperity.
The Prime Minister will also emphasize Pakistan’s commitment to fostering collaboration in key areas vital for development.
A key session during the summit will focus on addressing humanitarian and rebuilding challenges in Gaza and Lebanon caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to restate Pakistan’s stance, advocating for a peaceful resolution and regional stability.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will represent Pakistan at the 21st D-8 Council of Ministers meeting on December 18.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister is likely to engage in discussions with leaders from other participating nations.
