Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for an investigation about the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) controversial advertisement to promote the resumption of flights to Paris.
PIA has released an ad to announce its flight resumption to Paris which depicted a PIA aircraft near the Eiffel Tower alongside the tagline “We’re Coming,”
This ad instantly spark criticism for its controversial visuals which show its resemblance with 9/11 incident.
The controversial advertisement garnered significant attention, prompting PPP Senator Sherry Rehman to bring the matter to the Senate’s attention.
“How was this advertisement approved and allowed to go live without proper scrutiny?” she questioned.
On the calling-attention notice by Sherry Rehman, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar responded that Prime Minister had taken note of the issue and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the advertisement’s creation and approval process.
Dar also expressed hope for the resumption of PIA flights to the UK by March or April. He noted that a UK team is expected to visit Pakistan by the end of January for a physical inspection.
In this session Senator Rehman also called for greater transparency regarding PIA’s privatization plans, emphasizing the urgent need to address uncertainties surrounding the airline’s future and the grounding of its aircraft.
At this, Dar assured that the process was progressing swiftly and encouraged Pakistan’s corporate sector to play a pivotal role in revitalizing the national airline.
