Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has established a special task force to tackle the growing issue of human trafficking syndicates operating in Pakistan.
PM has announced that he will personally lead the department to curb the issue of human trafficking.
“We will make sure that those responsible for human trafficking are brought to justice,” premier stated during a review meeting.
PM directed all the concerned departments including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to actively contribute to identifying and apprehending human smugglers.
This decision is followed by the recent boat tragedies in Morocco and Greece.
In these recent tragedies, dozens of Pakistanis lost their lives. PM expressed deep sorrow over these tragedies and extended his condolences to the victim’s families.
During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister on the groups responsible for human trafficking and the FIRs registered.
By so far, 12 FIRs have been filed, 25 suspects identified, and three key individuals arrested, according to media reports. Additionally, 16 names have been added to the passport control list to prevent further illegal activity.
The frequency of human trafficking and migrant boat tragedies has risen sharply in recent months, claiming numerous Pakistani lives. On December 13-14, 2024, at least 80 Pakistanis perished when boats carrying migrants sank near Greece.
