Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced an immediate salary increase for Islamabad Police to match that of Punjab Police, along with an Executive Allowance for ICT Police officers and the Islamabad administration, mirroring provincial practices.
Speaking at a tribute event for police officers at the Police Lines Headquarters, the Prime Minister also extended the Shuhada Package to the families of 44 out of 64 ICT Police officials who lost their lives in the line of duty.
During his visit, he received a guard of honor from a contingent of Islamabad Police, laid a wreath at the Martyrs Monument, and offered prayers for the fallen officers. He also met the family of Constable Abdul Hameed, who was martyred during a protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on October 6, 2024.
The Prime Minister directed the swift completion of a Police Hospital project, initially announced on June 21, 2023, promising to eliminate any obstacles. He praised Constable Abdul Hameed for his bravery and commended his family for their resilience in the face of loss.
Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged the efforts of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and IG Islamabad for supporting the police and instructed immediate recruitment of constables and officers based purely on merit to address staffing shortages.
He highlighted the dedication of the ICT Police during significant events, including the 2013-14 PTI sit-in, which severely affected the national economy. He commended the police for their effective response to a recent PTI protest amid a critical visit from the Malaysian Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister reiterated his party’s commitment to police reform and resource allocation, recalling his initiatives as Punjab Chief Minister, including the establishment of the first Safe City project and various specialized police units.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reported a 38% reduction in crime in Islamabad over the past five months and detailed advancements in police services, including overdue promotions, the establishment of a women’s police station, and improvements to 27 police stations.
IG Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi emphasized the force’s continuous efforts to uphold public safety and counter threats to the state.
