Pakistan International Airlines PIA spokesperson said the salary hike was based on an appeal to raise according to inflation so salaries would be well adjusted for inflation as well as for the cost of living.
It has been the first time in four years that there has been any salary adjustment, with the last being in 2019.
Employees have been suffering over all these years from constant inflation to pay their daily expenses.
Keeping in mind the economic squeeze on the pockets of the employees, the board of the PIA decided and approved this long-overdue increase in salaries.
According to the spokesperson, the increment will help retain highly specialized professionals at PIA.
Over the last couple of years, PIA has been suffering attrition in its workforce. Currently, it has less than 7,000 employees and the number is on the decline.
PIA is thus bent on undertaking this move in order not to lose any more of these skilled personnel while at the same time keeping operational synergy.
The issue of salary increment has been pending for quite a long time with several appeals sent to the Privatization Commission and financial advisors.
Recent decision is said to be a big step in dealing with the employees’ financial crunches while the airline, with the support of this experienced team, will continue to run smoothly.
This wage raise also serves the strategic interests of PIA in raising the morale and retention of employees, which is crucial for operational efficiency in Pakistan’s flag carrier airline.
