The Pakistan Football League (PFL) made a significant announcement on Wednesday, revealing that Muhammad Riaz, a footballer who recently gained attention after a video of him selling street food went viral, will be awarded Rs1 million and given a key role in the league.
Farhan Junejo, Chairman of PFL, expressed his support for Riaz, saying, “On behalf of the PFL, I am proud to present Muhammad Riaz with Rs1 million and offer him a prominent place in our league. He is a talented player who has proudly represented Pakistan internationally, and it’s crucial we support such exceptional talent.”
The PFL, a franchise-based league with backing from a UK-based firm and foreign investors, aims to enhance football in Pakistan from the grassroots level to professional standards.
Muhammad Riaz, who represented Pakistan in the 2018 Asian Games, was recently filmed frying jalebis in Hangu, sparking a wave of public outrage.
Many took to social media to criticize the lack of support from both the government and sports authorities, drawing attention to the struggles of athletes like Riaz.
