The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) focuses on Iftikhar Ahmed with a disciplinary arrow, imposing a hefty punishment on the all-rounder for his violations during the current President’s Cup.
Iftikhar, the captain of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) team, allegedly violated the PCB’s Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel at level 1 when he disapproved of the umpire’s ruling after his team’s bowling innings ended without a leg-before-wicket appeal being granted.
The event transpired during WAPDA’s first semi-final encounter against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) in the President’s Cup One-Day 2024-25 on Sunday at Jinnah Stadium in Gujranwala.
After Muhammad Asif and Zulfiqar Jan, the on-field umpires, brought up the complaints, match referee Iqbal Sheikh held a hearing. Iftikhar was found to have violated Article 2.8 of the PCB code and was immediately penalized half of his match costs.
Without more protest, Iftikhar Ahmed agreed to the accusation and the ensuing penalties.
The revelation is just another setback for the 34-year-old, whose team lost by 74 runs in the semifinals.
