Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, is poised to become a senator and play a pivotal role in the federal government after being nominated as the government alliance’s candidate for the Senate elections on March 14.
The decision was jointly made by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Once elected as a senator, Mohsin Naqvi is expected to assume a significant responsibility within the federal government. Sources suggest that Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan is likely to be the senatorial candidate from Punjab.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Q, has also decided to participate in the Senate elections. He has laid a condition before the coalition leadership to contest the election unopposed.
Mohsin Naqvi’s Transition
Reports indicate that Mohsin Naqvi, currently serving as the Chairman of the PCB, is anticipated to be appointed as the Interior Minister in the cabinet of newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Despite this new role, Naqvi is expected to continue as the PCB Chairman. The move comes after his unanimous and unopposed election as PCB Chairman for a three-year term last month.
This development suggests a significant shift for Mohsin Naqvi, transitioning from the world of cricket administration to a key role in the federal government, potentially shaping policies and decisions related to interior affairs in Pakistan.
