Former international fast bowler Aqib Javed was named by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday as the temporary head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team till the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
According to a statement from the board, Aqib will continue to work as a senior member of the men’s National Selection Committee at this time and will be given further duties when the eight-team competition is over.
A permanent white-ball head coach will be hired by the PCB in the meantime, with the goal of having the position filled before the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy, which is set for February 19–March 9.
Gary Kirsten has resigned, leaving the white-ball coaching position open. The team’s recent tour of Australia was guided by red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie, who will now return for the forthcoming two-Test series in South Africa.
The Pakistan men’s team will play as many white-ball matches in South Africa (December 10–22) and three ODIs and three T20Is in Zimbabwe (November 24–December 5).
Pakistan will be hosting New Zealand and South Africa to play an ODI triangular series from February 8–14 in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
