Wael al-Dahdouh, a Palestinian journalist, was honored with the Courage Prize at the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Press Freedom Awards.
Every year, the RSF Press Freedom Awards honor the efforts of media outlets and journalists who have significantly defended and advanced press freedom throughout the world, according to the organization.
The 32nd award event honored five journalists from all over the world for their efforts, and it was held in Washington, DC. There were two media outlets, five photojournalists from 22 different nations, and 18 journalists and journalist teams competing.
He “never discontinued reporting despite damages and the death of his family mates in Gaza,” which is why al-Dahdouh was given the Courage Prize.
“Wael al-Dahdouh, who leads Al Jazeera’s desk in Gaza, is a seasoned Palestinian journalist who personifies tenacity and the pursuit of accurate information.”
Al-Dahdouh has lost several times as a result of Israel’s fierce onslaught in Gaza. His wife, teenage son, and small daughter were all slain at a refugee camp in central Gaza in October 2023, according to a BBC report.
In December 2023, an Israeli drone attack killed his cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa and wounded Al-Dahdouh himself. In January, he traveled to Qatar for medical care, according to the RSF.
