Pakistan’s first locally built four-wheeled electric vehicle (EV) will join the market in December. The breakthrough was revealed on Saturday during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on the usage of electric vehicles.
According to a government statement, 49 permits for the domestic manufacture of two- and three-wheeled EVs have been granted since 2022, and 25 firms have already begun producing these cars.
The statement said, “The first electric car will hit the market in December this year, and the first license for the national manufacturing of four-wheeled electric vehicles will be issued in September 2024.”
In Pakistan, the EV market is expanding and has the potential to drastically change the nation’s automotive scene.
Dewan Farooque Motors Limited (DFML) notified its stakeholders on Tuesday that, after clearance from the Engineering Development Board (EDB), it has started producing electric vehicles (EVs) at its assembly facility.
The Chinese electric car behemoth BYD also announced its arrival in Pakistan last month, making the roughly 250 million-person country in South Asia one of its newest markets.
PM Shehbaz instructed the pertinent authorities to provide a thorough financial model for EVs at the meeting.
According to him, electric cars (EVs) would not only save significant foreign cash by using less gasoline and diesel, but they will also be more ecologically friendly.
