Veteran actress Nadia Afgan recently voiced her opinion that without international audiences, particularly those from India and Bangladesh, Pakistani dramas would struggle to gain viewership on YouTube.
Speaking during a podcast appearance, Afgan reflected on her experiences in the entertainment industry and shared insights into how the drama scene has evolved over the years.
“In the past, actors would rehearse before filming, but that’s no longer the case. Newer actors seem to be in a rush,” she remarked.
She explained that many actors today lead fast-paced lives, often juggling multiple projects, which leaves little room for preparation.
“They arrive on set, quickly skim through the script, and begin shooting without rehearsing,” she added.
Afgan acknowledged that while some young actors are talented, most are caught up in a hectic lifestyle.
She also commented on how the success of dramas has shifted from being measured by traditional TRP ratings to YouTube views.
According to Afgan, dramas garner significant attention in India and Bangladesh, where audiences appreciate the storytelling without being overly critical.
“Viewers in those countries appreciate the content for what it is, without immediately condemning it. In contrast, Pakistani audiences are quick to criticize and question the portrayal of certain themes,” she said.
Afgan emphasized the importance of international fans, saying, “I have a strong fan base in places like India and Bangladesh who value my work. If it weren’t for these viewers, I doubt Pakistani dramas would have much of an audience on YouTube.”
