Pakistan has advanced to Tier-1 (Role-modelling) and is currently ranked among the top 40 nations in the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Global Cybersecurity Index 2024.
Initially, the country placed 79 on the ranking.
This achievement underscores Pakistan’s commitment to boosting cybersecurity across the country, notably in the IT and telecom industries, according to a news statement from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The statement went on to say that the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoITT), PTA, and other stakeholders were significant drivers of this success.
The PTA stated that major attempts to improve cybersecurity include the Cyber Security Policy, CERT Rules, Critical Telecom Data and Infrastructure Security Regulations (CTDISR), Cybersecurity Strategy, and regular cybersecurity assessments across the telecom industry.
According to the press release, the National Telecom Security Operation Centre (SOC) and National Telecom CERT have improved Pakistan’s security posture by sharing information, addressing incidents, and coordinating swift responses.
These measures, together with local telecom providers’ adherence to international cybersecurity norms, have enhanced Pakistan’s defense against cyber attacks, the report said.
