Pakistan sent an aggressive demarche to Afghanistan on Wednesday in response to Monday’s devastating terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment, which killed eight security officers and injured numerous more.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the Deputy Head of Mission of the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad was called to the ministry today.
It stated that Pakistani officials expressed their serious concern and requested that the interim Afghan government thoroughly examine the event and take swift, strong action against the offenders.
They also advocated for efforts to avoid future strikes from Afghan soil.
The Hafiz Gul Bahadur organization, which carried out the Bannu attack, together with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has been responsible for a number of violent attacks in Pakistan.
According to the statement, Islamabad has underlined its significant worries over the continuous existence of such terrorist groups in Afghanistan, which endangers Pakistan’s security and undermines bilateral ties.
“The Bannu Cantonment incident serves as another warning of the significant threat that terrorism poses to regional peace and security. Pakistan reiterates the need for decisive action against terrorism and stands resolute in its commitment to combating this menace and protecting its security from all threats,” the statement continued.
According to the ISPR, the incident was carried out by the Hafiz Gul Bahadur organization, which operates from Afghanistan and has previously utilized its territory to carry out terrorist strikes within Pakistan.
It should be remembered that in November 2023, Pakistan summoned the chief of Afghanistan’s foreign mission in Islamabad and sought the extradition of terrorist Gul Bahadur, the commander of a banned TTP group.
The Bannu Cantt attack comes as Islamabad has once again urged the Afghan Taliban regime in Kabul to prevent its land from being utilized by numerous proscribed parties responsible for terrorist strikes against Pakistan.
