The National Institute of Health (NIH) reported the detection of the 43rd Wild Polio virus Type-1 (WPV1) case in Pakistan on Wednesday.
The regional reference laboratory for Polio Eradication confirmed the virus in a child from the Chagai District of Balochistan.
It’s the first case from Chagai, making it the 43rd case in the country this year. Sindh reported 12 cases, Balochistan reported 22, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 7, and Punjab reported 2.
This year, a nationwide polio vaccination campaign kickstarted from 28 October to 3 November. This campaign aims to vaccinate over 45 million children under the age of five.
The federal government also started awareness campaigns, parents must open their doors when vaccinators arrive during this nationwide polio vaccination campaign.
According to the public service note, “Please ensure that all children receive two drops of the oral vaccine (OPV) to protect them from the devastating effects.”
