Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar expressed readiness for trade negotiations with India during an interview on Monday.
In an exclusive conversation on Samaa TV, Dar remarked, “It is encouraging that Pakistan is hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, especially given claims of the country facing diplomatic isolation.”
Reflecting on the nation’s economic struggles, he stressed the need for a Truth and Reconciliation Commission on economic matters, suggesting that Pakistan’s economic progress has been intentionally derailed.
“How did an economy ranked 24th globally fall to 47th?” Dar questioned.
Addressing constitutional changes, he clarified, “We are not in a rush to pursue constitutional amendments,” and criticized the previous government for inaction against terrorism, emphasizing, “We are not as incompetent as our predecessors.”
Dar also downplayed concerns over discussing amendments before the new judiciary, remarking that political issues stem from events like the 2011 Lahore rally.
He cautioned against the attitude of feeling superior to the country.
He further commented on the economy, noting, “Inflation is declining, and the economy is on the path to recovery.”
On international issues, Dar affirmed Pakistan’s governmental support for Palestine and Lebanon, highlighting the relief fund set up by the Prime Minister for both nations.
