Pakistan has successfully launched its first completely indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) satellite.
The satellite was sent into orbit from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in China.
A live broadcast of the launch was held at the SUPARCO complex in Karachi, allowing citizens to watch the event as it unfolded.
The EO-1 satellite is designed to strengthen Pakistan’s ability to monitor environmental shifts and respond to natural disasters.
It will provide critical data on weather conditions, crop performance, and soil moisture levels, contributing to enhanced agricultural output.
Additionally, the satellite is expected to bolster the nation’s defense infrastructure by offering real-time surveillance capabilities.
In May 2024, Pakistan also launched its first multi-purpose satellite, PAKSAT MM1, from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
Positioned 36,000 kilometers above Earth, the satellite is equipped with advanced communication technology and has a 15-year operational life.
The PAKSAT MM1 aims to revolutionize the communication sector by delivering high-speed internet and improving e-commerce, economic activities, and digital governance, as highlighted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his congratulatory address to the nation.
