Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja admitted slow internet speed in Pakistan.
The IT minister saidthat the internet speed in the country is not as it should be, and there are some issues related to the slow speed of the internet.
She was speaking during the Senate’s question hour on Thursday.
Shaza Fatima said that there are some spectrum-related issues causing problems with the internet, and the speed currently being provided in the country is not up to the mark. She added that some issues are being faced regarding the slow internet.
The Minister of State mentioned that they are in constant contact with the IT and Telecom sector to resolve the issues. She also said that there is still a problem with one of the submarine cables, which will be fixed by the end of October.
The IT Minister emphasized that the youth rely heavily on the internet, and efforts are being made to provide internet access to every household.
She further informed that PTA operates a web management system, and Twitter (X) was blocked on the orders of the Ministry of Interior.
Shaza Fatima mentioned that PTA is registering VPNs and also stated that the Data Protection Bill will soon be presented in the house, as Pakistan faces cyber security issues.
The IT Minister also highlighted challenges related to financial fraud but assured that business operations will not be affected under any circumstances.
