The Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan had invited the Indian PM Narendra Modi to Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting which is being held in Islamabad.
Pakistan is scheduled to host the SCO heads of government conference on October 15 and 16.
The event will be preceded by a ministerial conference and numerous rounds of senior official discussions focused on SCO member states’ financial, economic, socio-cultural, and humanitarian cooperation.
During a weekly news conference, the Foreign Office spokesperson revealed that the government has sent invitations to the heads of state to attend the summit.
“An invitation is also sent to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi,” she added, adding that certain nations have already confirmed their attendance at the summit.
“It will be revealed in due course which nation has confirmed,” she said.
When asked about relations with India, the spokesperson stated that “Pakistan does not have direct trade ties with India.”
Additionally, the spokesperson stated that Pakistan’s foreign secretary was attending the 50th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), which was held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on August 29-30.
“The foreign secretary will present Pakistan’s perspective on Gaza and Jammu and Kashmir there,” she added, adding that he will also discuss “terrorism and other global issues” at the meeting.
Baloch stated also that “Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s bombing of a historical mosque in Khan Younis” .
In May of last year, then-foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari traveled to India to attend a two-day meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers.
