Pakistan defeated Canada in Tuesday’s must-win T20 World Cup 2024 match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium with a score of 107 runs.
The Men in Green started the run chase with young player Saim Ayub starting with Mohammad Rizwan, taking the place of captain Babar Azam.
His participation did not pay off as he only had six runs when he returned to the pavilion in the fifth over.
Pakistan’s lead against Canada was bolstered by a couple of boundaries from the dynamic duo of Babar and Rizwan.
Babar had earlier chosen to bowl first after winning the toss in the mega-tournament’s 22nd encounter, which is also a game that means a lot to the national team.
In the third over, Mohammad Amir dismissed Canadian opener Navneet Dhaliwal (4), giving the Pakistani team their first wicket against the opposition.
Following the initial dismissal, the bowlers swiftly gained momentum. Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was unable to secure a wicket in his first over, advanced when Pragat Singh (2) was caught and bowled in the fifth over.
Imad Wasim completed the job for his partner by dismissing Nicholas Singh for just two runs in a run-out after Haris Rauf gave up 13 runs in the seventh over without capturing a wicket.
After sending Ravinderpal Singh to the dugout in the tenth over, Rauf seemed to be going for a hat-trick as Pakistan looked dominating with five wickets remaining.
Aaron Johnson, who deposited Imad for his third six before reaching fifty, did his best to keep Canada in the game as the wickets continued to fall. With barely ten runs under his belt, Canadian captain Saad Bin Zafar was dismissed.
The national team lost both of its first two games and has to win both of its remaining games, which are crucial group matches, to advance further in the competition.
