Pakistan declared their innings at 448/6 on day two of the first Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, following Saud Shakeel’s 141 and Muhammad Rizwan’s 171 not out.
Day two witnessed the home team start at 158-4 with Saud Shakeel (57) and Mohammed Rizwan (24) at the wicket.
The two batsmen kept up their strong play and prevented the Bangladeshi bowlers from breaching their defense. Before lunch on day two, they had established a formidable partnership of 142 runs.
Shakeel (86 off 169) and Rizwan (89 off 131) are both very close to reaching their century marks as the visitors’ bowling against the home team appears to be ineffective.
After having been chosen to bat first earlier in the day, the host team found it extremely difficult to contain Bangladesh’s speed attack, as captain Shan Masood (6), Babar Azam (0), and Abdullah Shafique (2) were all out in the first ten overs.
The hosts recovered from a three-wicket deficit to stay in the game, thanks in large part to a pivotal 98-run stand between Saim Ayub and Saud.
In his third innings, Saim scored his first fifty in a Test match. He hit four fours and a six in his 56 off 98 balls.
