Bilal bin Saqib has been nominated by the government to serve as the Chief Advisor to the Finance Minister for the Pakistan Crypto Council as the country attempts to formally establish its position on cryptocurrencies.
According to a statement issued by the Finance Division on Wednesday, the action is part of Pakistan’s efforts to reaffirm its dedication to adopting technological advancement while making sure that sensible policy measures are in place to support the country’s economy, digital transformation, and a safe, open financial system for everybody.
According to the statement, Saqib, who has been named a Web3 investor, strategic advisor, and thought leader in the blockchain field by Forbes, has also been given the 1632nd Points of Light Award, which is given by the British Prime Minister to honour the nation’s changemakers.
In 2023, he was awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) for his services to the UK’s National Health Service.
Saqib “will lend his extensive expertise to Pakistan’s attempts to integrate cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies into its economic ecosystem while ensuring the establishment of a robust regulatory framework for digital assets in alignment with global best practices” in his role as the Chief Advisor to the Finance Minister of the Pakistan Crypto Council.
“He will also provide guidance to the finance ministry regarding the investigation of artificial intelligence (AI) as a means of improving government efficiency, streamlining decision-making procedures, and stimulating innovation in public sector operations.”
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb praised Saqib’s appointment, saying it represents a major step forward in Pakistan’s dedication to embracing the revolutionary potential of digital currencies, ensuring financial security, mitigating risks, and accurately assessing the impact of cryptocurrencies on Pakistan’s economy.
Bilal bin Saqib is also brother of Pakistani actor Momin Saqib.
