During a brief ceremony on Tuesday at the Pakistan Mission in New York, the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia and Pakistan officially established diplomatic ties.
On behalf of their respective nations, Ambassadors Menissa Rambally of Saint Lucia and Munir Akram, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN, signed the joint communiqué.
In his remarks, Ambassador Akram expressed his happiness to have been a part of the event that established formal diplomatic ties between the two brotherly nations.
In her remarks on the occasion, Ambassador Rambally expressed her happiness that the two nations’ bilateral ties had begun a new and important chapter.
She mentioned that Darren Sammy, a St Lucian and former cricketer for the West Indies, was also an honorary citizen of Pakistan and “would always talk about Pakistan and the hospitality of its people.”
In addition, Ambassador Akram said that Pakistan and St. Lucia had been collaborating in multilateral fora, such as the Commonwealth, and that the formalization of relations would provide the framework for furthering bilateral relationships.
The ambassador from Pakistan also stated how much the people of St. Lucia and Pakistan enjoy cricket.
Formal diplomatic contacts, he thought, would pave the way for beneficial relationships in the areas of trade, business, political collaboration, and tourism.
Thanking her Pakistani counterpart for organizing the event, Ambassador Rambally said she had “learned a lot from him.”
The Caribbean envoy expressed her humility to the UN envoy for Pakistan’s comments on her nation and its citizens.
She said that although Pakistan and Saint Lucia already had a great connection and were actively working together in a number of arenas, official diplomatic relations would present a chance to strengthen their partnership even further.
