Pakistan is scheduled to attend the United Nations-hosted Afghanistan talks in Qatar’s capital this weekend, diplomatic sources told local media.
Earlier this month, Taliban leaders confirmed their participation in the third round of Doha negotiations, which will begin on June 30, according to a Taliban spokesperson who declined an invitation to the last round.
According to reports, Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan, Asif Durrani, and Ahmad Naseem Warraich, Assistant Secretary for West Asia in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will represent Pakistan at the discussions.
It should be remembered that Pakistan has repeatedly urged that the Taliban administration put an end to cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan into Pakistan by blocking the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorist groups from using its territory.
According to diplomatic news reports, the Afghan Taliban provisional government has rejected the second Doha negotiations in 2024 because to the involvement of women and civil society members.
It would be the first time that Afghanistan’s interim administration would meet with special delegates from across the world, they said.
According to reports, before to the Doha negotiations, the United Nations met with representatives of Afghan civil society both inside and outside of Afghanistan.
Following the conclusion of the talks, representatives of civil society and women would meet with the special envoy for Afghanistan on July 2.
“In the third Doha talks, agreement on recognising the Afghan Taliban and Afghanistan’s interim government is out of the question,” a diplomatic source stated.
