When are the 2024 Academy Awards happening?
The 96th Oscars ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 10, as announced by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC, on Monday. This marks the third time for the Oscars ceremony to be conducted in the month of March, consecutively.
Official Submission Deadline
The Academy officially scheduled the submission deadline for the nominations for general categories for the Oscars this year on November 18, 2023, while shortlists began on December 18 and results announced on December 21. The nominations voting period ran from January 11-16, 2024, with the official nominations announcement made on January 23.

Oppenheimer will be competing against Barbie, American Fiction, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Past Lives, Poor Things, The Zone of Interest, Maestro, and Anatomy of a Fall.

Killers of the Flower Moon
Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon comes in third spot with 10 nominations in total. Scorsese makes history with the title of being nominated for best director 10 time. Killers of the Flower Moon was nominated for 10 awards, including Best Director (Martin Scorsese) and Best Actress (Lily Goldstone). The lead actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, was surprisingly snubbed in the Best Actor nomination.

Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling’s iconic Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig boasts eight nominations including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling) and Best Supporting Actress (America Ferrera). Gerwig was not nominated in the Best Director category.
