OpenAI’s CTO Mira Murati announced her retirement from the company that created ChatGPT, and two other executives also said goodbye to the artificial intelligence startup.
In a written statement announcing her departure from OpenAI, Murati stated that she had made the “difficult decision” to “step away (from OpenAI) since I want to find the time and space to do personal exploration” after giving it careful thought.
Altman disclosed that two additional senior executives were leaving the business shortly following Murati’s declaration.
Murati, OpenAI’s Chief Research Officer Bob McGrew, and another research leader, Barret Zoph, made their decisions “separately of each other and respectfully,” according to a memo that Altman posted on social media to staff members.
The recent high-profile exits from the San Francisco-based software startup include Murati, McGrew, and Zoph.
The company’s co-founder, John Schulman, departed in August to join rival Anthropic, which was established in 2021 by a group of former OpenAI execs
