Pakistan cricket Board explained the absence of Indian flag at National Stadium Karachi following a viral video that stirred up controversy days before the ICC champions Trophy 2025.
In a viral video of National Stadium, it was seen that flags of all participating countries were hoisted except India. This led to rumors that PCB deliberately left out the Indian flag in retaliation.
However, higher authorities in PCB clarified its stance. They said that only four flags will be hoisted as advised by ICC.
“The ICC advised that only four flags will be hoisted on Champions Trophy 2025 match days – ICC
(Event Authority), PCB (Event Host), and two sides competing on that day. Simple,” a PCB spokesman said.
The Champion’s Trophy is set to begin on 19 February. Hosting nation Pakistan will face New Zealand in the Opener of event at Karachi stadium.
While India team will kick off its campaign by playing against Bangladesh on Thursday in Dubai.
Both India and Pakistan along with New Zealand and Bangladesh are placed in Group A.
Group B is comprised of England, Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan. It is called as “group of death”, as 3 out four SENA counties are playing against each other in the group.
A clash of cricketing titans Australia Vs England will be held in Lahore on 22 February.
The thrilling Pakistan-India encounter
However, the thrilling Pakistan-India encounter is scheduled at Dubai International stadium on Sunday, February 23.
While semifinals will be played on March 4 and 5, final will be played on 9 March.
Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi showed his satisfaction on the agreement that granted Pakistan to host the event while India playing its matches in Dubai.
We are pleased that an agreement has been reached based on the principles of equality and respect. This showcases the spirit of cooperation and collaboration that defines our sport,” Naqvi told the press.
He also highlighted ICC’s role in reaching the agreement.
“Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the ICC members who played a constructive role in helping us achieve a mutually beneficial solution. Their efforts have been invaluable in promoting the interests of international cricket,” he acknowledged.
Despite all the issues and controversy Pakistan is set to host highly anticipated tournament and complete focused is shifted to make it successful.
