Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), disclosed on Saturday that Maulana Fazlur Rehman was commended by former prime minister Imran Khan for his assistance in advocating for judicial independence during difficult times.
Gohar called for the protection of Imran Khan’s rights during a news conference held at K-P House in Islamabad. He revealed that he spoke with Khan for forty-five minutes and brought up the unfavorable circumstances surrounding the PTI leader’s detention.
Khan’s cell had been without power for five days. “It is against his human and constitutional rights to keep him in a small cell and in isolation,” Gohar said. He said that Khan has not been able to watch TV or read newspapers for the past two weeks, so he is not aware of the latest constitutional events. “We kept him informed on these issues,” Gohar continued.
Gohar said, “He expressed regret over the arrest of his sisters, but emphasized that he and his family are always prepared to make sacrifices.” This was in reference to Khan’s personal circumstances. Khan’s call for the country to maintain its peace was also communicated by Gohar.
Five PTI officials briefed Imran Khan on the status of constitutional revisions during the meeting, which was held in Adiala Jail. According to Gohar, Khan reacted favorably to the talks and praised Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s dedication to judicial independence in particular.
