Sindh Health minister Dr. Azra pechuho has dismissed reports of a COVID-19 outbreak in Karachi, calling them baseless.
Dr Pechuho clarified that out of over 100 COVID-19 tests conducted in the city, only 7 returned positive.
She emphasized that these cases exhibited mild flu-like symptoms, and the affected individuals were sent home for recovery.
The health minister highlighted that 10-12% of patient are testing positive or “Influenza H1N1”, while 5–10% of children are being diagnosed with “RSV” (Respiratory synctical virus) and other respiratory viruses.
Most patients display mild symptoms, and many do not undergo testing, leading to undiagnosed cases of seasonal illnesses.
Dr. Pechuho noted that globally, COVID is now treated like seasonal flu, with no need for undue concer.
Reports suggested that 30 % of cold and cough patients in Karachi were suspected of having COVID.
However, Dr. Pechucho confirmed that these figures were inaccurate.
Citizens are encouraged to remain calm, seek medical advice if necessary, and focus on general health precautions during the flu season.
This reassurance from the Sindh Health Minister aims to dispel misinformation and reduce public anxiety regarding seasonal illnesses in Karachi.
