At least 13 people including three children were killed by lightening strikes and during other incidents related to heavy rain and thunderstorm in different parts of Pakistan.
Pakistan Metrological Department had on Thursday forecast the rain, windstorm and hailstorm in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and federal capital Islamabad. The heavy rain spell, as per the Met Office, likely to continue till Tuesday.
The fresh spell of heavy rain entered Balochistan on Thursday midnight, reaching in southern and central Punjab on Friday night. Lahore also witnessed light shower on Saturday (today).
Reports say heavy rains in Balochistan and KP areas during last two days caused traffic blocked at major highways and roads. It also generated flash floods in nullas in different districts of Balochistan.
Thunderstorms, isolated hailstorms and heavy rains also damaged the wheat crops ready for harvesting in different areas of Punjab.
A local TV reported that two including a children died and many sustain injuries during lightening strikes in Quetta, Noshki, Dera Bugti and Kohlu.
Provincial Disaster Management has stated that two children killed when lightening struck a house during heavy rain in Surab district of Balochistan. Nine people killed in Punjab districts of Rahim Yar Khan and D G Khan during heavy rains, according to local TV.
Malakand division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also affected badly during the heavy rains, disconnecting electric supply and causing traffic mess in hilly areas.
Meanwhile, light rain in Lahore turned the weather pleasant as many outsiders who went out of city to celebrate Eid ul Fitr at their hometowns and villages are returning back to the provincial metropolis.
Johar Town, Ali Town, Model Town, Township, DHA, Old Lahore, Walled City, Shahdara and other areas witnessed drizzling and fine rain.
Many areas of the city are without electricity supply as Lahore Electric Supply Company’s feeders tripped during the rain. The Lesco spokesperson said the power supply will be restored soon as staff is working for restoration.
