Sam Wells, a selector from New Zealand, unveiled the 16-member team for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Monday, as cricket fans worldwide prepare for the mega-event that is scheduled to begin in June of this year.
The Black Caps, captained by Kane Williamson, have a roster that includes veteran Tim Southee, who will be participating in his seventh T20 World Cup – one more than Williamson, who will be captaining the team for the fourth time.
The addition of left-arm pacer Trent Boult, who will participate in his sixth T20 World Cup, and the fact that 13 of the players on the list will go with the squad to the Caribbean in 2022 will add to the team’s experience even more.
Six players have also participated in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 competition, giving them important experience into the playing environment that will probably be helpful in the next major event.
The New Zealand team also includes Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, and Ish Sodhi. Southee is the team’s top wicket taker in the game’s shortest format.
Ben Sears, meanwhile, will accompany the team as a traveling reserve.
The squad announced that fast bowler Adam Milne will not be playing in the competition because of surgery on his ankle, and that Kylie Jamieson would not be playing because he is recovering from a back issue.
