The details of the proposed amendments regarding judicial reforms in the country have surfaced.
A new constitutional court, with a new chief justice, is expected to be established in the country, the sources close to the development said on Saturday.
The proposal included establishment of a new constitutional court besides extension in the term of the judges of the higher education.
“Establishment of another constitutional Court is also expected under the Charter of Democracy in the new constitutional package,” said the sources.
The sources said that a proposal for a new court as well as new chief justice is also under consideration.
“The appointment of a separate chief Justice for a new court is being deliberated upon,” said the sources.
The sources said that the purpose of the new constitutional court with a new chief justice for the matters of the constitution as well for the cases of the public is to lower burden on the Supreme Court.
“The proposal for the new court and chief justice will be part of the expected constitutional amendments,” said the government’s sources.
The existing Supreme Court, they said, would hear the matters related to public interest.
However, the new court, according to the sources, would be comprise of five judges.
“The new constitutional court will take up the cases coming under Article 184, Article 185 and Article 186 of the constitution,” said the sources.
They said all four provinces and federation will be represented before the new constitutional court.
The new court would also take up the constitutional matters coming from the provinces.
“The new constitutional court is being made part of the new package under Charter of Democracy on demand of the PPP,” they added.
