The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Friday approved an increase in electricity tariffs under the quarterly and fuel price adjustments.
Alongside this hike, a reduction of 37 paisa per unit has been sanctioned in the monthly fuel charges adjustment for July.
According to a statement issued by NEPRA, the authority has approved a Rs 1.75 per unit increase under the quarterly adjustment mechanism. This decision has been forwarded to the federal government for implementation.
The quarterly adjustment would be applied to electricity bills for the months of September, October, and November.
NEPRA also clarified that the third quarterly adjustment for the fiscal year 2023-24, amounting to Rs 0.93 per unit, will conclude in August. However, starting in September, there will be an additional increase of Rs 0.82 per unit in electricity bills under the quarterly adjustment.
Furthermore, NEPRA approved a 37 paisa per unit reduction in the fuel charges adjustment for July.
A hearing on the matter was held on August 28, 2024, and the approved relief will be reflected in consumers’ electricity bills for September.
It was noted in the statement that a fuel charge adjustment of Rs 2.56 per unit for June had already been applied in the August bills.
Consequently, there will be a Rs2.93 per unit reduction in the fuel price adjustment for September bills.
However, when both adjustments are combined, the consumers will receive a net relief of Rs2.11 per unit in their September electricity bills.
