Ne Zha 2 has brought in over 14 billion yuan ($1.9 billion) at the global box office, since its premiere, increasing the production company’s stock price.
The animated feature movie has made over $2.07 million since its debut, making it the highest-grossing animated picture of 2025.
In just four weeks, Ne Zha 2 had reportedly made $1.9 billion on around 80,000 screens. This accomplishment put Ne Zha 2 among the top eight films ever made at the worldwide box office, surpassing even Inside Out 2.
Jiaozi, the director, revealed that although they first thought about hiring foreign companies to handle the visual effects, they ultimately chose to collaborate with local teams as the international options did not meet expectations.
The Huanying Fengbao (Miragevfx) studio in Jiangxi province worked for three months to create the ethereal dome effects for Yu Xu Palace. The average age of the animation staff was only 25.
Five production companies collaborated in Ne Zha 2, including two with Jiaozi and three with Enlight Media. Industry experts predict that Enlight might make over 2 billion yuan from a total box office revenue of 10 billion yuan, with a production and marketing spend of 500 million yuan.
The screenplay, which has incisive dialogue and rich character development, is brilliantly penned. According to LO Shuk-pui, Director of the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government, “I’ve heard that 138 companies worked together on this project over five years—the dedication and technical expertise are truly wonderful.”
Ne Zha tells the story of a young man who is chosen to fight demons and defend a town that once feared him because of his amazing powers.
