The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning to pertinent agencies regarding the likelihood of flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, coupled with anticipated storms and rainfall in southern Sindh.
This advisory comes as meteorologists forecast monsoon rains originating from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal to affect various regions across Pakistan.
According to the National Emergency Operation Center, these monsoon rains have begun to enter northern Pakistan.
They are expected to influence different areas within the next 24 hours and persist through July 27.
The NDMA’s alert encompasses several regions:-
Southern Sindh: Coastal regions, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Larkana Division, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, and Islamkot, are predicted to experience wind storms and rain starting tonight.
Southern Punjab: Areas such as Rohi and Rahim Yar Khan are forecasted to receive heavy rainfall.
Upper and Central Punjab:Including the Potohar region.
Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: These regions are also under a heavy rainfall alert.
The NDMA has highlighted the potential for urban flooding due to intense rainfall, significant river flooding, and an elevated risk of landslides in mountainous areas.
The NDMA has called on all relevant departments to implement necessary precautionary measures to reduce the risks associated with the forthcoming weather conditions.
