PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has said PTI founder chairman Imran Khan has stabbed him in the back.
Addressing the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the PML-N, he said after he assumed power in 2013, he first met with Imran Khan to get him to agree to work together for the country’s sake. Imran next went to London, and then a plot was hatched that resulted in protests upon Khan’s arrival.
“I went to meet him [Khan] but he stabbed me in the back after assuring cooperation and then headed to D-Chowk Islamabad,” he said while referring to Khan’s famous sit-in.
“Our government never went to destabilize Khan’s government in KP after the 2013 elections despite having been in a position to do so in a democratic way through a coalition.”
He further said “I was removed for not taking a salary from my son.”
Demands legal action against SC judge:
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has sought legal action against former judge of the Supreme Court.
He referred to the early resignations of two SC judges – Ijazul Ahsan and Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi – and said they should be asked why they resigned. Both these judges resigned before the completion of their tenures. Sharif demanded that legal proceedings against Ijazul Ahsan should be initiated.
Mazahar Naqvi’s case was in the Supreme Judicial Council when he resigned and the then President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Ali accepted his resignation. Afterward, President Asif Zardari reverted this resignation and he was notified as dismissed. The SC in his case observed that a judge under trial could not resign. While, Justice Ijazul Ahsan who was earlier part of the proceedings against Naqvi resigned from his post. There were reports circulating that a reference against Ijazul Ahsan was to be framed but he resigned before that to save pension and other privileges. He was a senior judge and was to be the next Chief Justice. Earlier he was designated as the monitoring judge of the JIT that was formed to investigate Nawaz Sharif. In 2017 Nawaz was disqualified by the SC and he stepped down from the premiership. In 2018 he was disqualified from his party’s presidency. His disqualification was made under Articles 62 and 63 of the constitution.
This decision of the court was regarded as among the most controversial decisions in Pakistan’s history. Judges could not remove prime ministers or presidents in any other country of the world but it was dome here. Who will answer for this, he asked?” He added that he had the right to ask this question. Nawaz said “It is very good that the leadership of every province is present here. We have gathered after a long time.”
Shehbaz Sharif acting president of PML-N:
The CWC of the PML-N nominated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the acting president of the patty. Shehbaz Sharif to continue as acting president of the party till May 28.
Earlier, the CWC accepted the resignation of Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif from the party’s presidency but nominated him as the acting president. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif earlier this week resigned from this party position and vacated this post for his elder brother Nawaz Sharif. The PMLN’s general council meeting was scheduled for May 11 for the election of Nawaz Sharif as party president, but was differed to May 28 in conformity with “Youm-e-Takbeer.”
Following this meeting, Khwaja Saad Rafique was reported as saying that Shehbaz Sharif’s resignation was “accepted with a heavy heart.” It is expected that Saad will be elected as the general secretary of the PML-N. (By Rana Kashif)
