The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) intends to construct self-service kiosks in Karachi to renew expired smart national identity cards (NICs) and re-issue missing NICs.
The facility allows citizens to quickly obtain their NICs without having to wait in line.
The service will be installed in airports, train stations, and shopping malls after first being made available at NADRA mega centers.
The technologically advanced kiosks were on display at the NADRA booth at the Expo Center at Karachi’s IDEAS Exhibition.
Citizens can finish the application procedure for NIC renewal and reissue by using this automated kiosk.
The kiosk would allow citizens to capture and validate their thumb prints and pictures independently, without the assistance of a data input operator or personnel.
According to NADRA Assistant Director Ammar Haider, the self-service kiosk is now in the testing phase and would be deployed at NADRA Mega Centers around the city if it proves successful.
The NADRA Mega Centre in Islamabad already has the self-service kiosk set up.
Haider claims that citizens will be able to use the automated kiosk to process their NIC applications by going through a series of steps, such as entering their prior NIC information, undergoing biometric verification, taking a picture, receiving a QR code for payment, and entering their Jazzcash or Easypaisa payment reference.
